Crime has long been viewed as “news” but it’s now slipping into entertainment.
A new reality TV series will feature former Harris County prosecutor teaming up with Dick Wolf (from the Law & Order franchise) to produce a show about criminal cases.
Although many victim’s families work to keep their loved one’s case in the media in hopes of finding the culprit, to sensationalize crime and the criminal justice system hurts victims and the accused.
No criminal defense attorney or their clients want cases made into entertainment for others and most victims feel the same way. The pain of others should not be turned into entertainment. When it’s necessary, any coverage of a criminal case should be approached in a dignified manner…without sensationalism.
Keeping out of the media or dealing with the media in an effective manner is part of some criminal cases, and when it is your criminal defense attorney should work to approach those issues carefully.
